“Forty years of professional music making, combined with the talents of seasoned professionals will make for an outstanding performance.” — Lloyd Roby

Long-time CSU, Chico music professor and master trombonist Lloyd Roby will present what he has jokingly been referring to as a “senior recital,” Friday, February 19th at 7:30 p.m. in Chico State’s Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall (PAC 134). The concert is free and open to the public.

“It’s going to be a wonderful night of music,” said Roby. “I’m going to get to preform with some of the finest musicians in Chico in front of a wonderfully appreciative audience.”

Joining Roby on stage during portions of the recital will be David Rothe (organ), Brad Martin (piano), Daun Weiss (voice), Tobin Roye (guitar), and Kathleen Eckhart (piano). Chico State student musicians Danny Galarneau, Nathan Love, and Eric Bolstad will also contribute to the event.

Roby has a long and impressive resume of bands and orchestras he has performed with — the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Band, Stan Kenton Band, Woody Herman's Thundering Herd, The Benny Goodman Band, and the Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Sacramento symphony orchestras. He has also been in groups, large and small, that have backed up an array of top-notch singers and entertainers, including Ray Charles, Barry Manilow, Bob Hope, Charo, Glenn Campbell, Steve Martin, Englebert Humperdinck, The O'Jays, Vic Damone, Don Rickles, and many more. Currently he is first-chair trombonist for the North State Symphony as well as conductor of the Paradise Symphony Orchestra.

“Chico audiences enjoy and appreciate a wide range of music — jazz, early music, opera, symphonic band, etc.,” said Roby. “All these different styles will be represented at the recital.”

For over 20 years Roby has been teaching a variety of music classes at CSU, Chico, including Music Education, Music Theory, and Ear Training. He also gives one-on-one studio instruction to students who play French horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba.
